Future Agro Challenge invites innovators making an impact in the AgriFood value chain from farm to fork, to compete for a chance to win an all expenses paid trip to the Global Agripreneur Summit in Thessaloniki Greece, to represent South Africa against up to 60 other countries for the title of Global Agripreneur of the Year.
Future Agro Challenge is a leading global AgriFood Startup Pitch Com- petition and a decentralised network of agripreneurship ecosystems in over 60 countries across 5 continents.
Future Agro Challenge (FAC) anchors a dynamic community that takes root in each joining nation, enriching the global conversation with a transfer of ideas and solutions. Each nation and region brings a new perspective, fresh concepts, unique solutions borne of their own indi- vidual experiences in overcoming obstacles.
FAC discovers fundable food, agtech, and agriculture innovators globally, and provides key tools and opportunities to help them grow their business and expand them into new markets.
Our goal is to unlock natural capabilities by merging nature and technology. We do this on a global level by increasing interaction amongst agro innovators, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders. We hope that in doing this, we will contribute towards increased agricultural productivity while at the same time decreasing our environmental footprint.
HOW IT WORKS
Applications and nominations are open from the 24th of March to the 21st of May 2021. Applications can be made on the Future Agro Challenge competition page (https://facagro.com/compete/).
Applicants and nominees will go through adjudication to select the top 10 startups who will pitch at the Future Agro Challenge South Africa virtual Pitch Finals, where a winner will be selected.
The winner will represent South Africa at the Global Agripreneur Summit in October. By invitation fron the ministry of Agriculture, the Global Agripreneur Summit will return to Thessaloniki Greece in 2021.
Future Agro Challenge South Africa relies on a panel of global experts in AgriFood and Innovation to select startups that demonstrate the potential of AgriFood in achieving some of the most pressing UN Sustainable Development Goals in Africa.
* Startups that have been active for no longer than 5 years
* Have an innovative or scalable business idea or model in the agrifood innovation sector ranging anywhere from Farm to Fork
* Can transform a community, a nation, a region, or have global impact
* Have a Minimum Viable Product

First round of adjudication begins. The panel will be made up of AgriFood experts and influencers nationally and globally.
25 MAY 2021
Announcement of the top 10 startups that will pitch at the finals for a chance to be crowned South Africa's Agripreneur of the Year.
01 JUNE 2021
The public vote for their winning startup out of the top 10. The public's vote will count towards the final score of the competing startups.
24 JUNE 2021
The top 10 startups pitch before a selected panel of expert judges and the Agripreneur of the Year for South Africa is announced.
The winner will represent SA at the Global Agripreneur Summit to compete to be crowned the Global Agripreneur of the Year.
